Satellite Television Systems - What You Need To Know

A satellite television system is similar to broadcast in that it is wireless. You don't need to have an antenna on your roof, in your attic or on top of the TV, in order to tune in your favorite programs. The main components of the satellite system are the dish and the receiver. You install a satellite dish on the side of your house, or even on the rail of your patio, so that it has an unobstructed view of the southern sky. This is connected to a receiver, which you connect to the back of your TV. Once all the connections are in place, you have the system in place to receive satellite TV.

Once you subscribe to a package from a satellite service provider, installers will do all the work for you. With a satellite dish all you have to do is point it at the satellite once and you will have the programming you need. You bring in the channels by using your remote control to put the satellite on the right transponder. All the instructions are right on the television screen, telling you how much signal strength is coming through to your TV.

The programming sources of a satellite TV system are the channels that the provider has available for you to choose. If you are a new customer, you usually get to use all the channels free that the provider has for a specified period of time, so you will have a chance to choose your favorites. This allows you to only pay for the channels you watch and not bother with the ones you do not need.

When you have satellite TV, you also need to have a phone line connected to the TV. This allows you to rent movies by choosing from the onscreen guide. You don't have to go to the video store any more only to find that the movie you want is rented. Now you can order the movies direct to your TV and have the cost added to your monthly bill.
